About Me - Scott Ogren, PE
Founder of CAD Master Coach • Adjunct Instructor, University of Portland (CE201) • Licensed Professional Engineer (OR, WA, CA)
I’m Scott Ogren, founder of CAD Master Coach. As a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in three states, I’ve spent decades using AutoCAD on real engineering projects. From complex structural drawings to quick detail markups, AutoCAD has been central to my daily workflow.
Over the years, I have noticed that many students and professionals struggle with AutoCAD because it’s taught in abstract ways that don’t connect to real life projects. That’s why I created CAD Master Coach: bridging the gap between classroom theory and on-the-job practice.
On this site, I share the exact techniques I use in engineering projects, including tutorials, blocks, and cheat-sheets. My teaching style is practical, step-by-step, and geared toward getting results fast.
I’m an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Portland, teaching CE201: Civil Engineering Graphics—a sophomore course focused on reading construction drawings, 3D visualization, and practical AutoCAD drafting. I bring that classroom clarity into every CAD Master Coach guide.
I also run Ogren Engineering, where I practice structural engineering, and ShearWallPro, a structural design tool I created. These projects keep me grounded in real-world practice, so everything I teach is field-tested and reliable.

My Why
For most of my life, I’ve been building things — drawings, tools, workflows, and systems — not just because I love to create, but because I can’t stand to see good people struggle with unclear information. Whether it’s a student learning AutoCAD for the first time or an engineer working late on a deadline, I want them to feel confident, capable, and in control of their craft.
Over the years, I’ve realized that my real purpose isn’t just engineering — it’s empowerment through clarity. I lead with strength and courage so others can, too. Every guide, spreadsheet, and tutorial I create is built to take something complex and turn it into something understandable — something that gives people the courage to keep building.
That’s the heart behind everything I build — from Ogren Engineering, where I practice real-world structural design, to Structural Design Pro and Shearwall Pro, where I transform engineering tools into accessible online platforms. Each project carries the same mission: to make powerful knowledge simple, clear, and practical.
Teaching, for me, isn’t about transferring information — it’s about sparking confidence. Because when you remove confusion, you make room for courage. And when you lead with clarity, others find the strength to lead too.
